I was one of the lucky ones - I met a surgeon who was willing and capable - but many others, through fear or ignorance, or because their condition is inoperable, have to live their lives in the shadows, rejected by a society which rates visual appearance higher than ability or worth.
I've included this special page as a tribute to Peter and Doreen. Peter's drawings have illuminated much of Doreen's literature, and his paintings now hang on many walls. To Doreen, whom I contact every 15 years or so, and who carries in the conversation as though it was yesterday, I say a big thank you and please keep up the good work.
