It details some of the specialist skills available to those who are disfigured, their families and those who care for them. We hope that GPs will find this a useful referral guide to an area where specialised help is often difficult to locate.
In the first edition we have targeted the predominant concerns expressed in the many thousands of enquiries received each year by our long established charity.
The information supplied is the responsibility of the individual Head of Department, Clinic, Hospital or Charitable Organisation and we recommend that referring professionals should make the appropriate eenquiries within the resource framework we have provided.
The Register is divided into sections and each section has a description of some of the specialised services available; references and books for further reading and information, and an up-to-date listing of relevant addresses, telephone and fax numbers.
The first edition covers:
The National Disfigurement Register of Specialised Services is supplied free of charge to GPs in the UK (on request, with 36p postage on a self addressed envelope). NHS and private laser clinics in the UK, and international laser centres of excellence are fully detailed in our charity's companion book, the International Skinlaser Directory. GPs in the UK can obtain this also from the DGC free of charge (on request, with 36p postage on a self addressed envelope). These publications are provided as part of the DGC charity's continuing services for the medical profession in the interest of improved patient care.
If your clinic or hospital provides a specialised service for patients and or skin laser facilities and you would like details to be considered for the National Disfigurement Register or the International Skinlaser Directory, free of charge, please write, enclosing a stamped, self-addressed envelope, for our Questionnaire.
